Hyperloop Technology May Play a Role in Freight Transportation

In February, we blogged about the Hyperloop. The Hyperloop is a conceptual train-like design to provide ultra-high-speed transportation for passengers and freight. The concept is the brainchild of Elon Musk, and the fuselage would travel inside a pressurized tube on a cushion of air.  Hyperloop technology is fast-tracking into the freight sector. Hyperloop One Inc., is one of two companies racing to build the futuristic speed-of-sound transportation technology.

7-Eleven Makes Its First Food Delivery by Drone

7-Eleven, the world's largest convenience store, has partnered up with a tech startup company called Flirtey, and is now delivering the first order ever by drone to a customer’s home in Reno, Nevada. Industry watchers would have assumed that Amazon would be the first to make a drone delivery, however, they announced this week that they are moving their drone delivery operations to the UK to avoid the restrictive regulations of the United States. Given the feasibility, demand and safety precautions of U.S. regulations are expected to ease at the pace of Congress.

Amazon has forever changed the way we purchase consumer goods. Amazon launched Prime Now, its super-fast local delivery service, via its mobile app nearly a year and a half ago, and now the company is bringing the service to the web. Amazon's PrimeNow.com is the new website that lets customers place orders to be delivered within one to two hours, expanding the service beyond the mobile app for the first time. The scars from Amazon's retail onslaught are evident in mostly all brick and mortar retailers. The convenience and now speed seem to be a more attractive option than a visit to the mall. Macy's, Sears and Nordstrom reported dismal earnings, and retail share prices have plunged.
