How do you feel about driver shortage, is this a myth or reality?

Has government involvement helped the position we are in when considering this issue?

The law which was enacted (MAP-21) to protect the motoring public from Commercial drivers being able to obtain a driver license in more than one state, not being able to hide behind poor driving records, worth the added cost these new regulations will generate?

This past weekend the transportation industry received a big surprise! YRC had been looking for the Teamster rank and file to approve a new labor contract. That labor contract contained concessions that YRC’s ownership and management felt critical to stabilizing the organization’s financial condition and future sustainability as a going concern. The Teamster members apparently were unwilling to concede and voted down the contract. What happens now? If YRC were to cease operations what do you think will happen to capacity? What about rates? What do you think the overall impact will be on shippers?

For the ports of NY and NJ to remain competitive in the super container vessels age we will have to either raise the bridges or lower the river by dredging in order to accommodate the larger vessels. As we move the ships further up into the Atlantic Ocean Ports and Gulf Ports we start to see some new issues arising in doing business in the US. Among the biggest are our highway and waterway infrastructure.

The proposed widening of the Panama Canal is going to have a profound effect on the Gulf ports as well East coast ports. It is also going to change the neighboring countries to Panama ports to be a more vital link to US via rail. It is also going to have a major impact on the highway infrastructure in many ports in the US, Savannah and Charleston port authority's have already worked on partnerships between there two states to deepen there waterways to accommodate these new super container-ships.

How does your company select the freight carrier to move your product?

Our business model was developed 35 years ago, and still holds true to be a successful model today. The model was based on how a company selects the motor carrier it puts it's product on. I was sharing some space in one of our customers facility's to operate my business, the arrangement was for our company to run his shipping dock as well as insuring that his product was going on the best carrier for price and service.
