A bill of lading is one of the most important documents in the shipping industry. A BOL is a legal contract for securing freight transportation services specifically describing the content of the shipment, delivery instructions, title transfer and payment terms. Always be aware of section 7 if you are not utilizing an established 3rd Party Logistics provider. The working notion of Section 7 is that it relieves the shipper of its normal obligation to pay freight charges where the party who was otherwise supposed to pay them fails to do so. Despite the popularity of expedited delivery options like Amazon Prime the U.S. Post Office will increase delivery times significantly. More than a decade of losses has put the U.S. Postal Service in a dire financial situation. The biggest change in operations and the main reason for the longer delivery times stems from a reduced reliance on air transportation. About 20% of first-class mail was previously transported by air, but USPS said just 12% of mail will be sent by airplane under the new changes.

Just when you thought the pandemic was coming to an end Shanghai is in a strict lockdown attempting to contain a resurgence of Covid cases. Shanghai authorities began an immediate lockdown of the city’s 26 million residents late on Sunday after mass testing found "large-scale" COVID-19 infections throughout the financial hub. “Even a sporadic and short-live Covid resurgence could bring notable shocks to consumption and continue to weigh on consumer confidence for months after the Covid wave subsides,” Bank of America analysts wrote. With the exception of falling crude oil prices, all of the fallout will likely have negative effects worldwide.

Euroseas (NASDAQ: ESEA) confirmed this week that it chartered its 2009-built, 4,250-twenty-foot equivalent unit container ship Synergy Oakland for 60-85 days at a gross rate of $195,000-$202,000 per day starting in the second half of October.

It is difficult to look away from the suffering that’s going on in Ukraine. The existing and potential loss of human life is frightening. The West, as well as the entire world, is frustrated with its' inability to offer anything other than military hardware and financial support. The key issue is the fact that Ukraine is not a member of NATO so any active NATO military intervention in the region would be viewed as an aggressive move by Russia, possibly sparking WWIII. It’s difficult to predict what lies ahead for the Ukrainian people. We’ve not seen this level of infrastructure destruction since WWll.
